How To Plan a Quality Growth Plan Conversation 

BEFORE

Complete any pre-work or toolkits that will support you before filling out your My Growth Plan document.

Take the time to thoughtfully complete your My Growth Plan, making sure all objectives are SMART — Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

Once ready, schedule a one-to-one meeting with your line manager to discuss your plan.

DURING

In your Growth Plan conversation, review your document together with your line manager. Discuss each section and adjust objectives as needed, ensuring they align with both your personal goals and the wider organisation’s priorities.

This conversation doesn’t have to happen all at once — you can cover it over multiple sessions if needed.

AFTER

Update your My Growth Plan based on the discussion and submit the final version to your line manager within 48 hours of the meeting.

Remember: your day-to-day objectives, career goals, and development activities are driven by you. For any agreed courses or learning opportunities, coordinate directly with your line manager.
